A meeting this evening will see Rutland County council decide the future of proposals to build housing on St Georges Barracks.

The plans were thrown into doubt after a Government grant of almost 30 million pounds was rejected by Councillors earlier this year.

That was for infrastructure projects to make the site ready.

It means either the local plan for housing development gets passed without the St Georges proposals or there's a complete rethink on them as part of a brand new plan.

The process to complete a local plan has taken 5 years and still hasn't been signed off by the Government following the decision to turn down the money.

Planners are recommending a completely new local plan be created.

That would delay the whole process but would give more time to consider the future of plans for St Georges.

One possible solution may be to scale down the number of houses planned for the site.

Currently around two thousand home are in the proposal.

However protest groups like Fight4Rutland say that's far too many.

The meeting is on at 7 o clock tonight at the Rutland showground.

There are a small amount of public seats but there'll be a live stream of the event.
