A rail station has been evacuated, after reports of smoke on a train.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue crews were sent to Peterborough Station soon before 2pm this afternoon.

They "arrived to find a fire involving a train," the service said, adding: "It was safely evacuated and there were no injuries.

"The fire is now believed to be out and the train station has been reopened."

It's understood to have involved a Thameslink service, with reports of smoke following a fault.

While some passengers were moved from platform one and two, nobody was injured, and fire crews did not need to take any action.

A full evacuation of the station was not required, but emergency services are remaining on site while an engineer travels to assess the train.

Trains are still operating, using other platforms.

Govia Thameslink has been contacted for a comment.
