The 2 candidates in the US election have been making their final appeals to voters with polls opening in just a few hours.

Republican Donald Trump is taking on Democrat Kamala Harris for the right to become the next president.

The winner will take over from Joe Biden in January who's decided to step aside after one term following a disappointing performance in a debate against Mr Trump.

It would certainly affect us if Donald Trump become President and he pursues the kind of tariff raising policies that he's promise

We've been speaking to Historian Professor at Anglia Ruskin University, Rohan McWilliam, about the election.

He told us: "It would certainly affect us if Donald Trump become President and he pursues the kind of tariff raising policies that he's promised which could have a great impact on the UK economy - it could hit particularly the automobile industry - it could hit British farmers."

"There could be an impact on prices."

"There is the big question about climate change."

"Britain is committed to reducing climate change and Donald Trump is a climate change denier."

It is impossible to call this election

"There's a very good chance he will overturn the kind of internationally agreed target and that in turn will affect the United Kingdom quite dramatically. "

"I'm still not sure a Kamala Harris presidency would make a great deal of difference on current policy."

"Labour and the Democratic party have always had very warm connections."

"At the moment the Starmer team is trying to get to know the Trump team because there are huge differences there."

"It is impossible to call this election - more than any other election that I've known."

"We've had surprising results - we've had results that went right down to the wire but I've never known an election as close as this."
