Peterborough may see an increase in homelessness this Winter due to energy bill rises
Peterborough City Council says support is available for all who need it
We're hearing Peterborough may see an increase in their homelessness population as we head into the colder months because of the energy crisis.
This is according to Peterborough City Council - who have already helped 126 people get off the streets so far this year.
Despite this worry however, the council have said they will be able to support every rough sleeper when the temperature drops to 0 degrees.
This is down to the SWEP - the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol.
Kelly Slack, who supports the homeless community of Peterborough through her council role, said:
"We don't see a massive increase at the time being in homelessness but as we approach Winter and the crisis that we're in with energy bills at the moment, we may see an increase in general homelessness.
"When the temperature does drop to 0 and below though, we offer accomodation for those rough sleeping.
"We always have a a street-to-home pathway, when temperatures do take a severe dip- we are out 7 days a week, trying to get these rough sleepers off the street.
"There is a high number of homeless people in Peterborough and we will do all we can to support the individuals to prevent or relieve their homelessness.
