Peterborough Cathedral is making a final push for support as its Christmas fundraising campaign enters its last day.

Despite a major appeal earlier this year to tackle a financial crisis, the Cathedral says it’s still struggling to meet daily running costs of seven thousand pounds as well as being able to keep up with maintenance.

Until midnight, every donation will be matched by 'the Big Give Christmas Challenge', meaning supporters can make twice the impact.

Anna Bentley from the fundraising team said these donations are vital to securing the future of the historic landmark that plays a key role in city life and community outreach.

"It costs £7,000 a day to run the cathedral and to keep it open," she said.

"In terms of the work that we do, it's keeping this a place of refuge and reflection and peace for everybody."

"We have over 140,000 people come to this cathedral over the year, and I think it's an important venue.

"I think it's the heartbeat of this community; it's right in the middle of the city (and) anybody can come and walk in and feel welcomed.

"We know that the city loves this cathedral and they really come out and support us."

Organisers hope the generosity shown will ensure Peterborough Cathedral remains at the heart of the community for years to come.
