Peterborough and Cambridge United fans ready for new League One season
The Posh and the U's kick off their campaigns today
Fans of both Peterborough and Cambridge United will be dreaming of what their teams can achieve as the League One season gets under way today.
Both sides had contrasting ends to last season, the Posh missing out in the promotion play-offs while the U’s narrowly avoided relegation on the final day.
In May, Darren Ferguson’s side were beaten over two legs by Sheffield Wednesday while Cambridge boss Mark Bonner steered his team to safety with victory over Forest Green Rovers.
Adi Mowles represents Peterborough United fan group PISA 2000:
“I think most Posh fans got over Wednesday quickly to be honest; we have to pick ourselves up and the remaining players have to do the same,” he said.
“I don’t think we’re going to be struggling that much, I think we’ll be mid-table maybe as high as 8th but the inexperience will probably hold us back.”
Chris Neald, who chairs the Cambridge United Supporters’ Panel, is hoping for more ruthlessness in attack.
“I think there was a period in the middle of the season where we seemed to dominate games but couldn’t score,” he said.
“In League One, often you’re pulling together people and trying to make the sum of the parts greater than the whole and I think that’s something we’ve got to look to do.”
Peterborough go to League One newcomers Reading who dropped down from the Championship, while Cambridge face Oxford United at the Abbey Stadium, both kick-offs at 3pm.
