A new ‘pay as you can afford’ community food service has launched in Oakham.

The not-for-profit Little County Kitchen's providing restaurant-quality meals to families who are struggling and only asking them to pay if they can afford it.

It’s already stepping in to provide school meals during lockdown even though the idea only came about last week!

Suzanne Johnson is from the Kitchen, she says the support for the project has been great

"What's also fantastic is there are lots of real heroes in Rutland who are very generous who are prepared to pay full price. If people are able to order from us and pay full price - that goes a long way into making this project viable for us, and enable us to provide meals for the families who really need it"

Suzanne continues:

"all that's been in the news about food parcels and meals for children in school holidays has highlighted the fact that it's a real issue for a lot of families. People say it doesn't happen in Rutland but the number's absolutely convincing"
