'Open Farm Sunday' events in Stamford and Rutland today
Farms are opening their doors to locals to learn about the industry
You can find out more about being a farmer in the East Midlands today (9/6) as part of 'Open Farm Sunday'.
Since the first Open Farm SunÂday in 2006, over 1600 farmÂers across the UK have opened their gates and welÂcomed over 2.7 milÂlion peoÂple onto farms for one SunÂday each year.
It's an opporÂtuÂniÂty for everyÂone, young and old, to disÂcovÂer at first hand what it means to be a farmer.
Visitors will learn about work they do proÂducÂing our food, enhancÂing the counÂtryÂside and all the goods and serÂvices farmÂers provide.
Andy Guy, the ambassador for 'Open Farms Sunday' in the East Midlands told Greatest Hits Radio that the event is great for children.
He said, "It's great for kids, because to see where it actually comes from and how it grows. Its a really basic thing in the human understanding of how we exist.
"It's a great opportunity for them to have a wonderful day out, but learn some stuff at the same time."
