A council has backed plans to light a statue of Queen Elizabeth II.

The statue is being installed on a plinth in the grounds of Oakham Library later this year.

‘Warm white’ LEDs have been chosen as ‘the most energy efficient solution’ to light the statue at night.

They would be recessed, at the base of the plinth, and point up at the statue.

Oakham Town Council has backed the application, which will now pass to Rutland County Council’s planning committee for a decision in February.
