Oakham Skate Park plans declined
If it had been successful the park would have been placed in the Centenary Field.
Plans for a controversial skate park in Oakham have been declined.
Some locals wanted to build the facility as a replacement for the one at Cutts Close, and to provide young people with something active to do in the town.
If it had been successful the park would have been placed in the Centenary Field.
The vote took place last night with 4 votes against and two in favour of the plans.
Shortly after the vote Mayor Sally-Anne Wadsworth said:
“I’d just like to say I’ve got nothing against the skate park I just don’t like the positioning of it on the Centenary and that is why I have voted the way I have voted.”
Zoe Nealson, a former councillor for Oakham Town Council resigned after the vote. She said:
“I’m disappointed because the fact that Oakham has a lack of facilities for youth, particularly for older children and teens has always been the biggest criticism that Oakham gets. This really was an opportunity for the Town Council to work with so many members of community and possibly build a sports facility that could be used by everyone and would be free to access, which would make a difference to so many people’s lives.”
Oakham Town Council has been asked for a comment but none has been provided as yet.
