Oakham pride festival is set to return bigger and better this year according to organisers.

Celebrations will kick off at Oakham Castle from 11:30 onwards where people can pick up their wristbands.

The March will begin from 12:00 through the town.

The main festival will be set up at Cutts Close Park.

Entertainment includes live music, face painting, drag performances and stalls.

Last years event saw hundreds of people flock to Oakham Castle grounds, but they've had to change location this year because of the number of people due to attend.

Chair of the event Lucy Slessor says its a "safe" place for everyone.

"It's helping make people feel it's okay to be who they are"

She added: "There tends to be more acceptance in bigger cities than smaller little towns, but we didn't realise the numbers of our LGBTQ community we have here.

"It's fantastic, because it's helping make people feel it's okay to be who they are.

"We rely really heavily on our community and small business".
