RAF Wittering is set to host a major training exercise next week, which will see the return of fast jets to the airstrip for the first time in three years.
The aircraft, including Typhoon jets and transport planes, will be using the RAF base between next Monday (the 31st) and next Friday (4th June).
The RAF says people living nearby can expect a 'significant increase in aircraft noise', but only between 8:00am and 18:00pm.
'Exercise Swift Pirate' will see Wittering standing in for an airbase in a foreign country, so members of the No 1 Air Mobility Wing can practise the loading and unloading of a range of aircraft.
Group Captain Jo Lincoln is the Station Commander at RAF Wittering . She said: “Realistic training is essential, and I am certainly pleased that the Typhoon force has chosen to come here for a brief detachment."
"In circumstances such as these, reaching out to our neighbours is the right thing to do."
"The goodwill of our neighbouring communities is of the highest value to us, and we need that relationship to continue.”
