Rutland and Stamford's newly re-elected MP has confirmed a new school for children with special educational needs is coming to the East Midlands.
Earlier this year, Rutland County Councillors voted unanimously to close The Parks Special Nursery School in Oakham this summer, despite a campaign to try and save it.
Speaking to Greatest Hits Radio after being elected in last week's general election, Alicia Kearns, who previously represented Melton and Rutland, confirmed a new school will open in Leicestershire.
She told us: "There is a new special educational needs school coming to Leicestershire. That is something the Conservative Government announced a few months ago.
"The Parks is obviously a decision by the local Liberal Democrat council and they'll have to take accountability for that, as I raised concerns about it with the former education secretary at the time."
Speaking about her priorities generally, Ms. Kearns added: "There are so many things I want to get on with.
"The A1, flooding, my dementia campaign, working on improving our broadband, our fair funding, looking at some of the issues in Stamford around transportation.
"Health is a really big issue particularly in Stamford as well.
"There are so many things I want to get on with, and I hope I can show people that I am one of those people who can juggle lots of issues and get things done."
Official proceedings in parliament will begin for newly elected and re-elected MPs, on Tuesday.
