Police say they are investigating 'religious aggravated graffiti' in Melton Mowbray.
It's thought to have happened between Sunday evening and Monday morning.
It comes after the Leicestershire and Rutland Police and Crime Commissioner asked officers to investigate.
A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: “Police are investigating after religious aggravated graffiti was caused to a church in Melton Mowbray.
“A number of symbols were spray painted on the outside of St Marys Church in Burton Street sometime between 5pm on Sunday 23 January and 8am the following day (24 January).
“This graffiti is completely unacceptable and enquiries are ongoing into the report.
“Anyone with information can contact police on 101.”
