A drunken man who assaulted staff and helped himself to alcohol at a Peterborough pub has been jailed.

The force were called to the Paul Pry pub in Lincoln Road, Walton, on the morning of 22 December last year.

It was after reports that Thomas Honeyman, 36, refused to pay for his meal and made his way behind the bar where he helped himself to alcohol and grabbed a member of staff around their neck.

Staff say he continued to be abusive but left, weaving in and out of traffic on foot.

Upon being arrested, he called the female officer a derogatory term, resulting in him being further arrested for causing harassment, alarm or distress.

"completely unacceptable"

Honeyman, of Simpson Avenue, Bishop Auckland, Durham, appeared at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (20 May) where he was sentenced to six months in prison.

PC Tom Rice, who investigated, said: “Honeyman’s behaviour was intimidating for both staff and other customers at the pub, and was completely unacceptable.

“I’d like to thank the staff for making a report to us immediately. They were incredibly calm and professional, passing on detailed information which enabled us to take swift action and arrest Honeyman nearby.”
