A man who attacked staff at a Tesco store in Peterborough city centre after refusing to leave has been jailed for 12 months.
The incident took place on the evening of 7 February at the Tesco store on Broadway. Despite being banned from the premises due to previous anti-social behaviour, 38-year-old Steven Clegg entered the store and refused to leave.
Clegg damaged the store's entry barrier before launching a violent attack on staff, repeatedly punching security personnel in the head and throwing bottles and cans of alcohol.
Clegg, of no fixed address, admitted charges of criminal damage, assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), common assault, and affray. He was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court on Thursday, 22 May.
PC Chabraszewski, who led the investigation, said: “Clegg had been banned from the store due to his previous anti-social behaviour yet continued to enter the shop and cause a nuisance.
“No one should be subjected to violence for simply trying to do their job, and I hope this sentence provides some reassurance for them.”
