A man has died and a woman has been seriously injured in a five-vehicle crash near Peterborough.

Emergency services were called to the A605 between Elton and Peterborough at around 12.45pm on Sunday (14 July).

A white BMW 320, travelling towards the city, collided with a Scania lorry heading in the opposite direction.

The impact led to further collisions involving the lorry, a red Ford Focus, a red Mercedes Vito and a black Skoda Octavia.

The driver of the BMW, a 64-year-old man from Peterborough, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family is being supported by specially trained officers.

The woman driving the Mercedes, who is in her 60s, was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with serious injuries.

Cambridgeshire Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the crash or the moments before it.

Sergeant Jamie Cooper, from the Roads Policing Unit, said: “Out thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who tragically lost his life in this collision. Family are being supported by our family liaison officers.

“I would like to hear from anyone who saw the collision or has dashcam footage of the vehicles in the run up to it.”
