Drivers have faced long delays in Stamford this morning after a lorry fire led to the A1 being closed northbound at the Stretton turn-off. National Highways said the road surface needs to be inspected.

Leicestershire Police were called to a section of the A1 northbound between Stamford and Stretton by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service shortly after 5.45am. It was reported a lorry was alight. No injuries have been reported and emergency services remain at the scene.

A spokesperson for the force said "our contact management department are issuing updates on Twitter regarding the closure, so I would advise keeping an eye on that."
