Lorry driver who died in Peterborough crash named

Police are appealing for information about the crash on Friday

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following the death of a driver whose HGV veered off the A1 near Water Newton, Peterborough.

The incident occurred on the southbound carriageway at approximately 2:40 pm on Friday, 1 November. Emergency services arrived to find that the driver, Daniel Casariu, aged 43 and from William Street in Luton, had died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The A1 southbound carriageway was closed following the collision and re-opened at around 2:30 am on Saturday, 2 November.

Sergeant Mark Atkins, from the local police force, urged anyone who may have witnessed the HGV prior to the collision or who has dashcam footage to come forward. “I would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the HGV just before the collision or has dashcam footage of it,” he said.

Anyone with information or relevant dashcam footage is encouraged to report it through the police website, referencing incident number CC-01112024-0319.
