Four local MPs have put their names to a letter calling for major improvements at two doctors surgeries in Stamford.
On Monday, Lakeside Healthcare - which runs the Sheepmarket Surgery and St Mary's Medical Centre, was placed into special measures after it was given an 'inadequate' rating by the regulator.
The Care Quality Commission rated the service inadequate overall, finding the surgery was failing to provide care in a way that kept patients safe from avoidable harm.
The CQC found three breaches of regulations and have told managers to make urgent improvements.
Rutland's Alicia Kearns and Stamford's Gareth Davies have written to health authorities, along with North West Cambridgeshire MP Shailesh Vara and Corby's Tom Pursglove calling for 'significant change'.
In a statement, Gareth Davies said:
"I have coordinated with my neighbouring parliamentary colleagues who also have constituents who use Lakeside services in Stamford, to send one clear statement that we expect significant change as a result of this report."
Rutland's Alicia Kearns said:
"Given the number of Rutland residents who use Lakeside, my neighbouring colleagues who also have constituents who use Lakeside services and I have issued a joint statement."
In response to the CQC inspection Lakeside pledged to take 'swift action'. In a statement, it said:
“We are aware that patients have struggled to access appointments. During the pandemic, we, along with all GP surgeries nationally, are continuing to offer the majority of appointments via telephone or digital means, however we continue to see patients face to face at both Sheepmarket and St Mary’s practices if clinically appropriate.
“Resolving access issues for patients is a massive priority for us for the coming months and we have already taken action in this area."
