A man has completed a marathon while picking up rubbish to raise awareness of the impact litter has on our wildlife.

Sam Laywood collected 34 bags of rubbish while walking the 26.7 miles journey, completed on Wednesday.

An abandoned safe found dumped in a ditch is among the unusual items collected.

Sam is a member of the Leicestershire Litter Wombles, who's volunteers regularly collect litter across our region.

Other members of the group joined to give Sam support along the 16 hour walk.
