Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a cash machine was stolen from the outside of a supermarket in Oakham.

The incident happened around 3.50am on Monday (4/4 ) in Burley Road.

It is believed a JCB digger, which was stolen from a nearby farm just prior to the incident, was used to remove the standalone machine from the store’s carpark.

From enquiries carried out so far it appears three men loaded the cash machine onto the back of a vehicle - described as a dark coloured flatbed 4x4.

They then left the scene, travelling along the B668 towards Market Overton.

The digger was left at the location and has since been recovered by police.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who was travelling in the area during the early hours of this morning and may have information that could assist.

They are asked to call 101, quoting incident 22*189921.
