A Stamford man has been sharing his experience staying in Doha for the Qatar World Cup - including celebrating with family relatives of the England squad following their 3-nil victory over Wales to make it through to the last 16.

69-year-old Three Lions fan Barry Daff is at his fifth World Cup and is hoping to watch Gareth Southgate's men make it all the way to the final.

'I actually booked the cruise ship back in January for 29 nights - I actually arrived on the 20th November and I'll leave on the 19th of December', Mr Daff said.

'I think, when I do leave, the captain will boot me off because the ship is going to Dubai on the 20th and, of course, on the 20th of December is my 70th birthday.

'So, it'll be great to come back and party with the England boys having won the World Cup... you can only dream.'

Mr Daff told us he's had a memorable experience already, and has even stayed up late celebrating with family members of the England squad:

"The whole thing has been well organised, the weather is amazing, the stadiums are good...'

'After the first England game a guy saw my (England) suit and it was Kevin Grealish - Jack's dad, amazing guy.'

'We all got together, had a beer - and I was fortunate really to meet Luke Shaw's mum and the Maguire boys. All great company - that's been fun.'

'The latest night I've had was 4:30am - that's with the England families, but at my age I have to have a day off, or a night off....'
