Free courses on offer to improve maths skills in adults across Rutland
It will bridge the gap between the maths adults remember from school and maths used at home and in work

Adults in Rutland can now get access to free learning courses that will help to improve their practical maths skills.
Rutland Adult Learning and Skills Service (RALSS) is using 'Multiply' to bridge the gap between the maths that adults remember from school and the maths they use today.
It will make sure people have the practical numeracy skills they really need at home and in the workplace.
The Council secured £43,000 of national funding from the government’s Multiply scheme for adult numeracy, meaning all courses are free.
RALSS is offering Multiply courses across a variety of subjects including arts, digital skills, budgeting, cooking on a budget, helping children with their homework and mental maths.
The courses are free to adults aged 19 years and over who don’t have a maths GCSE at grade C or Level 4, as well as those who’ve previously gained a qualification at that level but are now working at a lower level.
Courses are being offered in venues across the county at different times throughout the week.
Cllr Raymond Payne, Rutland County Council’s Cabinet Member for Learning and Skills, said: “Maths features in many aspects of our life – at work, when managing bills, helping children with schoolwork or even cooking.
"However, the maths you and I learned at school can become outdated and even irrelevant, over time.
"You have nothing to lose and a great deal to gain, so go for it!”
Local businesses can also benefit from the Multiply project as courses provide the opportunity for specific, on the job development, as well as building numeracy confidence.
