Another bumper football weekend for pubs in Peterborough, Stamford and Rutland
The Three Lions face Switzerland in the EURO 2024 Quarter Finals
Pubs, bars and beer gardens across Peterborough, Stamford and Rutland are bracing for another bumper weekend of football as England look to progress again in EURO 2024.
The Three Lions face Switzerland today in the quarter finals, and kick-off on a Saturday for the first time this tournament.
It will bring increased footfall for pubs, and an injection of cash into the high streets across our region.
Katrina Pierce, from the Federation of Small Businesses, said: "Here in our part of the world, this is a place full of hotels, restaurants, cafes, shops, and lots of these places are really getting into the spirit of the Euros.
We came a little bit close to being knocked out on Sunday night, but it continues for now. So our local hospitality and retail establishments will be very, very happy to support and hopefully see England through to many more rounds yet."
She added: "...for an individual pub, for example, they can expect many more pints sold, many more meals sold, bar snacks, but more people; it's the dwell time.
It's not just people might come in for one drink. If they're coming to watch one of the matches, they could be in there for up to three hours, buying multiple drinks, multiple snacks, multiple meals.
So it's that dwell time that's really important to hospitality, people coming along, not just for the single match or for one drink on their way home or their way out somewhere else.
It's that time of people spending time in a pub or a cafe, anywhere showing the matches, and if people spend time, they spend money."
