Despite the current blue skies, there's a flood alert in place for Oakham and other areas near the River Welland.

The Met Office and Environment Agency say it's due to heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, which means that Welland tributaries are rising, potentially leading to flooding of low laying land and roads close to the river.

Rising water levels began taking place last night (Wednesday 16th), with the river expected to remain high over the next few days.

Flooding of properties is not likely so flood warnings are not expected to be issued, though river levels are being constantly monitored.

For the time being people are being advised to avoid using low lying footpaths and roads near the river, which may be flooded.
