Police receive reports of fake taxi service in Stamford
A suspect has been arrested and released on bail in connection with an offence
Police are investigating reports of a fake taxi service operating in Stamford.
Lincolnshire Police has received three reports about crimes taking place across the region in connection with the driver of a vehicle claiming to run a cab service in the area.
Three incidents have been reported, including a case where a man had got into a vehicle on Friday, 17 February. His card went missing during the ride and has been subsequently been used.
In a separate incident the force received a report that two men in a grey-coloured Skoda Octavia estate in the town were approaching members of the public and offering taxi rides without a valid licence.
One incident also involved an alleged sexual assault and a suspect has since been arrested and released on bail.
The force says enquiries into all three incidents are ongoing, and are now appealing for members of the public with any information to come forward.
The police is reminding us that taxis in Lincolnshire have to display a valid taxi driver licence which has a licence number specific to that driver.
