The driver of a lorry which was involved in a collision on the A1 yesterday has died.

Lincolnshire Police attended the scene yesterday afternoon (21st December) at about 4PM, following reports of a collision on the southbound carriageway.

The force say the HGV left the road, with the driver the only occupant in the vehicle.

They then arrested him on suspicion of being over the legal alcohol limit for driving, and was subsequently taken to Grantham Police Station.

Shortly after arriving, the driver was taken to hospital after becoming unwell, where he then passed away.

The A1 has now reopened following investigations by the emergency services.

His family have been informed and the incident has been referred to the IOPC, which is normal protocol.
