Doctors in Rutland say it's vital people wear suncream in the hot weather
It can reduce the risk of skin cancer
GPs in Rutland are warning of the dangers of skin cancer as they urge us to use suncream in the current hot weather
They say it's vital to protect ourselves against the dangers of sun damage.
The number of cases of skin cancer has been causing concern across the country.
Sunny Dhesi is a GP and cosmetic skin doctor from Rutland.
We spoke to him about the issue.
He told us: "If it's cloudy but it's a hot day there are different components to sunlight."
"You've got UVA and you've got UVB and the great mnemonic to remember is if it's cloudy UVB will be absorbed by the cloud - UVA is what ages you."
I think a lot of people forget or it's a bit too late when they apply suncream
"I always tell patients 80 per cent of ageing is sun damage - get that suncream on and reply every couple of hours."
"The number usually equates to how long it will give you protection for."
"SPF 50 - that's 50 minutes of protection."
"I think how the weather is now - definitely go for an SPF 50."
"You'll get 50 minutes of cover - after that you'll need to reapply."
"Suncream is the major thing."
"I think a lot of people forget or it's a bit too late when they apply it."
"Apply a good layer on in the morning - allow it to absorb for a few minutes before applying anything else on top."
"Wear a cap or a hat and hydration as well - plenty of fluids."
