A number of events are taking place across Peterborough, Stamford and Rutland today to mark 80 years since the D-Day landings.

More than 150,000 Allied troops launched a combined air, land and naval assault on Nazi-occupied France on this day in 1944.

A flag will be raised on the flag poles on Bridge Street in Peterborough Thursday morning.

Events will continue in the evening at the Recreation Ground in Stamford, with historical re-enactments and music.

All Saints Church in Oakham will also host a memorial concert from 7.30pm on Thursday evening performed by the Rutland Concert Band.

Events are also taking place on Sunday 9th June:

A Church service at 10:30am at All Saints' Church in Oakham.

Live music is taking place at Cutts Close on Sunday afternoon, organised by Oakham Town Council, including performances in the Band Stand by Alan Jackson – 12-2pm and Marlow & Smith – 3-5pm.
