Last Covid vaccine clinics set to close for people with learning disabilities in Rutland
The last of the Covid-19 vaccination clinics will be closing down at the end of April due to the recent lack of demand
Over the past 18 months Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust have created bespoke Covid vaccination clinics, to help accommodate people with learning disabilities and their families when getting their first, second or booster jabs.
Since opening their doors back in May 2021, the clinics have offered the vaccine to over 600 patients with learning disabilities across the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland area.
Surekha Joshi is the operational lead at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust for the Covid-19 vaccination programme: “I am pleased to say that the Covid numbers are significantly lower now than what they were nearly two years ago.
"We are now handing back to primary care, so we will be asking people to uptake their vaccine now at their local pharmacy or their GP.
"It is time for the hospitals to get back to their businesses as usual and most vaccinations are now done within the community, so it’s natural that the Covid vaccinations go back there, just like you take your flu (jab) at your local GP or pharmacy and that is a sign of things getting better.”
The feedback they have received since starting these clinics has been positive, Surekha added: "The feedback that we have had has been brilliant.
"They have been very appreciative, very grateful.
"They have found that the setting has been exactly what that person has needed."
These vaccination clinics are opened to children over the age of five, young people and adults with learning disabilities and their family and carers.
The remaining clinics taking place will be held at:
- The Agnes Unit, Anstey Lane, Leicester LE7 7GL, from 10:30am till 4:30pm on Wednesday 26th April
- The Vaccination Centre, Loughborough Hospital, Hospital Way, Loughborough LE11 5JY, from 9am till 2:30pm on Saturday 29th April
You can book your appointment in advance by sending an email to lpt.covidcampaign@nhs.net with the patient's name, age and any requirements they may need.
Some walk-in appointments will be available too.
