A community bus service in Uppingham’s been given a £9,000 grant meaning it can serve the town for at least another year after winning national lottery funding.
It’s the third time in a row it’s been given a cash boost, the grants expected to cover almost all it’s running cost – the shuttle service takes vulnerable locals wherever they need to go.
Ron Simpson is the secretary of Uppingham First - he says it's excellent news:
"We're really pleased that the Lottery is supporting it. Because it goes to the heart of what the lottery is supposed to be all about. From our point of view it guarantees the service for the another 12 months at least"
"It's really about health and wellbeing, it's about all of those people who don't have a vehicle, who can't drive. It has a huge social purpose - just the ability if you have a serious leg injury like someone did recently to be able to go to the Doctor's surgery on the Hopper Bus. and then be taken home. It's a big deal"
The £9,000 cash injection will cover most of the running costs allowing the shuttle to continue to ferry locals around the area.
