We're being warned to stay vigilant following a string of car thefts across Stamford and South Lincolnshire.

Yesterday (29th) two cars were targeted in Stamford in the early hours, including a Land Rover from Exeter Gardens and a gold Land Rover Range Rover from St Marys Street.

The first vehicle has been recovered, and police say investigations are ongoing into both.

Four high-powered vehicles were stolen in Spalding on Wednesday (28th).

Police say culprits are using relay equipment to boost the signal of an electronic car key within the home, to open a vehicle outside, by holding an antenna towards the property.

What advice do police have?

We are being advised to use 'faraday bags', which are used to block electromagnetic fields and stop criminals from accessing electronic car keys remotely.

Police say those with 'Secured by Design' accreditation work best.

You can also check the effectiveness of the bag by securing the keys inside and walking towards the vehicle and checking it doesn’t unlock.

Additionally, some key fobs can be “turned off”, but owners will need to check if this is possible with manufacturers and local dealerships.

The use of CCTV can also act as a deterrent and valuable evidence gathering tool for police if your vehicle is targeted.

Wheel locks can also be used.

Anyone with information, or who has seen the vehicles, are being asked to get in touch with police.
