A man who jumped out of a window in an attempt to avoid being arrested as police raided a cannabis farm has been jailed.

Eduart Mrishaj, 32, leapt from the first floor of his home in Essendyke in Bretton as police burst in on January 26.

He'd initally tried to escape via the back door but ran upstairs after seeing police outside.

Inside the house, officers found cannabis plants worth up to £177,240 growing in four different rooms.

Mrishaj was handed a 20 week prison sentence at Peterborough Crown Court after admitting to production of cannabis.

Detective Constable Emily Richardson, who investigated, said: “Mrishaj knew he was in trouble as soon as he heard police forcing entry to his home and in a desperate attempt to avoid arrest, he jumped from a first-floor window but thankfully didn’t injure himself.

“Cannabis cultivation is often linked to organised crime groups and further criminality such as money laundering, violence and exploitation, therefore I would urge members of the public to report any concerns about cannabis cultivation to us.”
