Cambridgeshire Police have been working closely with pubs, clubs and restaurants to make sure they are well-prepared for this weekend's New Year's Eve celebrations.

The force says it will also be stepping up police presence across the county on Sunday night, to ensure party-goers feel safe celebrating the new year.

"to make people feel safe"

Sergeant Kevin Misik said:

"We work hard with the venues to make sure they know what they need to do to make people feel safe, so people are searched when they come in."

"Me and my team and the wider policing family will all be out on extra patrols, making sure there's a nice visible presence."

"It is a good time of year to celebrate, to be out with friends, but occasionally someone doesn't always have that good intent. That's why it's really important for all of our venues and my officers to be on their A-game."

"Our key aim is to make sure our night time economy is safe for everyone."

He added: "The City Council have provided extra St. John Ambulances for New Year's Eve this year too."
