Cambridgeshire Constabulary has issued a warning to parents and carers to ensure their children are aware of the dangers of phones and social media.
Justin Barrs, 25, was convicted of making indecent images of children in 2018 and again in 2020.
He was released from prison on the 26th of January this year, before being rearrested on the 4th of April by police at Thorpe Wood Police Station in Peterborough .
As part of his conditions of release, police went through his phone after his release.
On there, they discovered Barrs had created three usernames for online chat sites and had purposely deleted the social media app SnapChat, which he had been using.
He admitted he had been part of an online group for 13 to 19-year-olds and said, “I’m an idiot”.
DC Jon Edwards said, "Protecting children and vulnerable people from harm is one of our top priorities and I am very pleased Barrs breaches of his release conditions were discovered so he could be brought back before the courts."
On the 3rd of August of he was sentenced to three years and fourth months in jail by Peterborough Crown Court.
Anyone who is concerned someone may have been convicted of a sex offence, and could be posing a risk to a child, can apply for disclosure information through Sarah’s Law.
