A man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of making a bomb hoax at Queensgate Shopping Centre

Staff and shoppers were evacuated from Queensgate at 10.45 this morning.

Cambridgeshire Police have confirmed a man in his 60s has been arrested for an alleged bomb hoax at Queensgate Shopping Centre in Peterborough.

He is currently in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station.

Queensgate Shopping Centre and the bus station were evacuated this morning at around 10.45am by security staff.

A store manager had reported a "security threat" to Cambridgeshire Police about an hour earlier, at 9:30am.

Officers went to assist security staff with the evacuation of both staff and shoppers.

The centre and bus station re-opened at around 1.30pm.

Queensgate Shopping Centre has sent us the following statement:

“Queensgate received information from a retailer this morning that meant we had to evacuate the building."

“Following a police investigation, the centre fully re-opened at 1.30pm.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused, but the safety of our customers and staff working at Queensgate is our absolute priority.”
