Labour gain both North West Cambridgeshire and Peterborough seats from Tories

Labour have won in both Peterborough and in North West Cambridgeshire, which has been Conservative since the seat was created in 1997.

Andrew Pakes is the new MP for Peterborough, winning 13,418 votes and a majority of 118 over the Conservatives' Paul Bristow.

Labour's Sam Carling is the MP for North West Cambridgeshire, overturning a previous Tory majority of 26,000 to win by just 39 votes.

The results were declared following a count and verification of votes at Kingsgate Conference Centre in the early hours of this morning.

There was a 57.27% total turnout for Peterborough, with a total number of votes in the constituency of 42,021.

There was a total turnout for North West Cambridgeshire of 58.76% - with 44,604 votes being cast in total.

Tory MP Shailesh Vara has won North West Cambs in each of the last four General Elections, and has only ever been the MP for the constituency after Sir Brian Mawhinney in 1997.

The Peterborough seat has been a swing seat in recent years, with the Conservatives' Paul Bristow MP winning by a majority of 2,580 votes in the 2019 winter General Election.

Before that Conservative gain, Peterborough was Labour in 2017 and again in June 2019 following a by-election.
