Stamford based TV presenter Adam Frost urges us to keep spending more time outdoors
It's as more people have opted to spend time in their gardens since the coronavirus pandemic
There's a call for people living in Stamford and Rutland to keep on appreciating their gardens, even though most lockdown rules are set to come to an end next week.
That's because many people have taken up gardening through the pandemic to help with their emotional wellbeing.
TV presenter and garden designer Adam Frost lives in Stamford-He says the benefits of being outdoors shouldn't be underestimated:
"Don't lose whatever it was that gave you that connection to your garden.
"Even if you've not got a big garden, you can bring scent into the house.
"I grow little scented diuranium's which I put near my window. I come down in the morning, put the kettle on, and love to smell it in order to make me feel connected to nature.
"I always view gardens as safe places. I had quite a difficult childhood, and I always gardened with my grandparents.
"As I've got older, I've got to understand that everything feels that bit easier if I can spend a bit of time outside every day."
Our outdoor spaces have become like another room in the house for 65% of us during the pandemic, providing that relaxation to boost our moods (36%) with 15% of us experiencing uplifting feelings from the odours of our gardens, according to Brabantia whose research also found one of our favourite smells is that of fresh laundry drying outside which along with freshly cut grass, sea water, flowers and BBQs trigger our summer memories.
