A special act of Remembrance will be held at Oakham Castle this morning - to commemorate Armistice Day.

The event, which is open to the public, will be held from 10.45am at the castle.

The commemoration will be led by the Royal British Legion’s Chaplain, Reverend Brian McAvoy.

It will be followed by the two-minute silence, observed across the county, to mark Armistice Day - when guns across Europe fell silent at the end of the First Word War in 1918.

There will be a special civic Remembrance parade, featuring RAF and local veterans, which will set off from the Castle at 2pm on Sunday (14 November).

It will visit All Saints Church and Church Street - where there will be a wreath laying ceremony at the war memorial.

Anyone attending the events is being reminded to stay safe and follow public health advice in relation to COVID-19.
