A woman from Ukraine, living in Stamford, says she is heartbroken that the war with Russia is still ongoing.

Today marks three years since the Kremlin launched it's full scale invasion on Volodymyr Zelenskyy's country.

Talks are continuing this week between the US and Russia to bring an end to the war.

I did not expect it to still be happening

Maria, who came to Stamford in 2022 with her daughter and husband, said:

"I arrived here and said I'll be here maybe two or three months."

"I did not expect it to still be happening."

"When I think of all those people who are still there, you almost feel guilty that you left and they didn't."

"In Mariupol they killed tens of thousands of people."

"It's demolished and it feels like people have already forgotten."

"I never thought I'd be here, and it's one of those experiences I didn't want my child to go through."

"I sometimes think I've failed her because I didn't leave earlier."

A service to commemorate the invasion is being held at Browne's Hospital at 5pm this evening.

There will be readings, music and prayers to mark three years since the invasion.
