A woman from Stamford says the only thing that separates us from refugees is 'luck'
she's urging us to reach out to organisations that are helping refugees from Afghanistan
A Stamford woman who helps child refugees from Afghanistan says reaching out to organisations who are helping those in need can make a huge difference to someone's life.
Sally Bunkham says people in Afghanistan and refugees from the country are petrified about what's happening right now. And is encouraging us to help out if we can.
Sally reads bed time stories for child refugees from Afghanistan virtually over zoom, to help them learn English.
She's urging us to reach out to organisations that are helping refugees from Afghanistan.
Sally Bunkham is also part of Stamford's anti-racism group. She says:
"I know that people in Afghanistan and people from Afghanistan that are now here are absolutely petrified about the situation out there right now. There's many families out there who are just stuck and fearful for what's about to happen"
"The only thing that separates us from refugees is pure luck. you know, where we were born. We're so lucky to be born here. That's the only thing - there absolutely just like us. It shouldn't have to happen to you to matter to you I think"
"small acts make big differences so just making one , reach out - friendship or even just one smile to one person makes a big difference. So do reach out to those organisations that are helping. Because it can be life changing"
