January is a time many people find difficult to cope with, but now Oakham is launching an initiative to help anyone who may struggle with their mental health next month.

Peppers' new initiative aims to help anyone struggling with issues like depression, anxiety and loneliness.

The charity is starting monthly group walks to help to improve mood and encourage socialising.

We have seen some great friendships form

Helen, manager of Peppers, said:

"It's getting the body moving and if people are in a bigger group they may feel safer to do that."

"Some people don't want to walk alone as they might not know the area and there's safety in numbers."

"We're not open 24/7 so when Peppers isn't available we have seen some great friendship groups continue outside of the group."

"I think after Covid, people's isolation, social skills, and social worries definitely increased, and we are still seeing that now."

"However many years later, we are still seeing the effects, so this is just helping to ease people's anxieties."

This is just helping to ease people's anxieties

After a trial walk earlier this month, Peppers will be hosting these once a month from January.

They also offer a craft café, mindful tai chi, a wellbeing garden and mindfulness and meditation sessions.

The charity aims to provide an opportunity to meet a friendly face, take some time out to improve your mental health and look after your mind.
