Witnesses sought after serious assault near Totnes

An 18-year-old man has been left with a broken jaw, following a serious assault near Totnes.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the robbery on the Dartington Estate on Sunday (4 April).

The 18-year-old was assaulted by a group of males around 6.45pm.

The victim and his three friends were walking towards the river when they were approached by the group in a black BMW.

Detective Constable Rich Jones, from Newton Abbot Station, said:

"The man was then assaulted by three or four male occupants of the car, causing him significant injuries requiring hospitalisation and surgery.

"The attack on the victim stopped after a short time and members of the public who were nearby came to the aid of the victim and his friends.

"We believe that there were a number of potential witnesses to this attack and that they may be able to provide evidence to police."

Three people have been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

A 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man from Totnes, and a 17-year-old boy from Newton Abbot have been released on police bail, pending further enquiries, until 30 April.
