The winners of this year's British Firework Championships in Plymouth have been announced.

Skyburst The Firework Co., from Bristol, have been crowned the champions of the 2023 event. They were the first team to compete during the second night.

Second place went to Dudley-based Shockwave Pyrotechnics and Pyrovision, from Spalding, Lincolnshire, came third.

The 26th annual British Firework Championships attracted thousands of spectators to Plymouth’s waterfront on Wednesday and Thursday this week (16 and 17 August).

This year marked the first time that the Young People’s Choice Award was presented by local, care-experienced children. It was won by Electrify Pyrotechnics from Matlock, Derbyshire.

Karen Blake, Plymouth City Council’s Head of Service (Permanence and Fostering), Children, Young People and Families, said: "This has been a really special, fun opportunity for young people to be involved in one of the city’s most spectacular events and have their voices heard."

Lily, age 11, said: "They were all so different and good in their own ways, it is going to be hard to choose the winner!"

Ethan and Henry, both age 12, said: "We really felt the bangs! It was great fun judging the fireworks from inside the Citadel – it was amazing."

The British Firework Championships are hosted each year by Plymouth City Council in partnership with The Event Services Association.

The six professional fireworks companies that participated this year, listed in firing order, are:
