A major Devon climate change conference has been taking place today on the famous Burgh Island in the South Hams.

Groups from across Devon have come together to discuss what actions they could take to tackle climate change - in the first conference of its kind organised by the Bigbury Net Zero climate change action group.

A spokesperson for the event said: "The objective is to bring together invited delegates from South Hams capable of forming alliances to build ambitious projects which can rebuild wildlife habitat and reduce carbon emissions before 2030. "

The invitation-only 'Island Assembly' was opened with the traditional Oh Yea!, Oh Yea! from Modbury Town Crier David Scott.

A key note speech was delivered by international climate change lawyer Farhana Yamin, the UK’s High-Level Climate Action Champion who worked on the Paris Agreement and is now chair of Bigbury Net Zero.

Burgh Island owner Giles Fuchs hosted the event in his hotel, and outlined the work he'd undertaken to look at making the island's power more sustainable - including exploring wave, solar, ground heating and even wind power.
