Citizens Advice is warning that only 60% of EU nationals living in Plymouth have applied for settled status ahead of the deadline.

From January, the Government's implementing a new points-based immigration system, ending the free movement of people between the UK and the EU.

People wanting to move to the UK to work, live or study will have to apply and pay for visa.

Citizens Advice Plymouth have been monitoring changes to the scheme and implications for people already living, working and studying in Plymouth.

Their research has revealed that approximately 7,690 EEA nationals living in Plymouth have applied under the EU Settlement Scheme.

Their services also reported a significant decrease in issues with the EU Settlement Scheme Application process during the recent COVID-19 Pandemic.

Over the next 8 months, Citizens Advice Plymouth want to raise awareness of the EU Settlement Scheme and appeal to EU nationals to apply for their pre-settled or settled status as soon as possible.

EU, EEA and Swiss citizens will not require visa for tourist visits to the UK of up to six months.

The UK left European Union on 31st January 2020 and entered the transition period.
