Warning as snow and ice causes some disruption this morning

Some school transport has already been cancelled as a result of the weather. with drivers heading out this morning urged to be careful.

Gritters across Devon and Somerset made extra runs in the early hours to try and keep major roads moving.

While other parts of the country have been hit hard by snow, the West Country has escaped the worst - but school transport to some North Devon schools has been affected this morning.

Some schools across Devon will either remain closed today or open later as a result of the weather.

In Somerset Hemington Primary School is likely to open later, with parents being contacted directly

Many airports in south-east England had to close their runways for a time because of the wintry weather.

Longleat remains closed today as a result of the weather

Parts of Gloucestershire have been hit hard by the snow

There's also been disruption to some schools in Cornwall, with reports yesterday of icy conditions in Plymouth.

Some buses in North Devon have also been affected by the weather

One place where the weather will be welcomed tonight is for the Mayor of Taunton's ‘Carols Around the Bandstand’ event.

The ever-popular pre-Christmas event will take place in Taunton’s Vivary Park with Taunton Concert Band. Taunton-based choirs will support the sing-along, featuring Taunton Deane Male Voice Choir, The West Somerset Singers, Let’s Sing and in a new addition to this year’s line-up, Rock Choir's South West branch for Clevedon, Weston-super-Mare, Burnham-on-Sea, Bridgwater and Taunton.
