Traffic around the Forder Valley Link Road is expected to start flowing more smoothly from today (Thursday 1 September).

Some traffic restrictions, including temporary lights, will be lifted, allowing vehicles to travel from from Novorossiysk Road onto Forder Valley Road West.

The huge engineering project, which will connect the A38 and Derriford, is on schedule to open this autumn with a price tag of around £49 million.

It is expected to cut journey times to and from Derriford Hospital, Marjon University and other major destinations.

From Friday, additional lanes will be opened up with two lanes in most directions along with a new slip road from Forder Valley Road South onto Forder Valley Road West.

Other changes include:

  • Drivers travelling from Leigham Roundabout will be able to turn left onto the slip road and towards Crownhill or, if heading towards Asda, use one of two right-turning lanes onto Novorossiysk Road
  • Drivers travelling from Crownhill along Forder Valley Road West will have two lanes onto Novorossiysk Road and two right-turning lanes onto Forder Valley Road South
  • Traffic from Novorossiysk Road will have two lanes to continue straight onto Forder Valley Road West and two left-turning lanes onto Forder Valley Road South

However, there will be some closures too including the left-turn lane from Forder Valley Road West and the right-turn lane from Novorossiysk Road onto the new link road which will be for access to Poole Farm only.

Most of the traffic management is believed to be on target to be removed by mid-September when the speed limit will revert to 40 mph.
