The co-founder of Plymouth-based Street Factory has been named as one of this year's Baton Bearers in the Birmingham Queen’s Baton Relay.

Toby Gorniak MBE is a well-known figure in the city and said: "It feels incredible to be selected and to be taking part - really, really excited."

Toby, along with wife Jo, have been volunteering in Plymouth for the past 17 years, helping and giving back to their community.

The pair set up the hip hop collective Street Factory over 15 years ago, after recognising the need for a place where young people could go to discover their self-worth and feel part of the community.

Toby uses his passion and expertise in street dance to get young people up and involved.

Around 8,000 people were nominated by others to take part in the Baton Relay and Toby is one of the 2,000 that have been selected.

When asked about what it was like when he found out he was nominated he said: "I received an email saying I had been nominated and I was like wow this is incredible."

Toby is set to run his leg of the relay in Plymouth on July 4 and hopes to be able to show off the beautiful city and community he loves.

With his street dance roots and his well-known status in the community, Toby hopes to bring some Street Factory magic to the streets: "We’re definitely going to have some fun that day."

Look out for something special when going to support Toby on what should be a fun and amazing celebration.
